We talk about tolerance and acceptance of the LBGT community. We spend time in thought. And when the conversation is over, where are we? It’s time to move on – beyond the conversation. Join us…take a stand. Kick off Gulf Coast PRIDE week with an incredible “playshop” that will move the conversation off the table, changing words into action. Let’s Move On!
Sponsoring partners include the Gay-Straight Alliance of Gulf Coast State College, PFLAG, Abundant Life Community Church, Unity Church, and of course the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Bay County.
SATURDAY, MAY 31 – 1-7 PM – GCSC ATC BUILDING
The six-hour “playshop” will be facilitated by Transformative Artist Alex Mercedes, formerly of California. In it, participants explore personal and social issues using many of the same theater exercises and games that professional actors use to prepare for a role. The objective is to inspire new insights that will help them become “actors” in their home communities, finding new approaches to old problems.
“Every day of our lives we negotiate interactions with other humans, some of them very much like us and others who seem very much unlike us,” Mercedes said. “It can be daunting trying to navigate humanity’s amazing, awkward, dangerous, ridiculous diversity — but that’s what we’ve got to do and the workshops provide a relatively safe environment in which to practice the necessary skills.”
This event is FREE, but please let us know you’re coming by RSVPing to rec@uuofbaycounty.com
