As the Social Justice Committee gets our new Bay Youth Interdisciplinary Leadership Development (BYILD) project off the ground, they continue to organize activities with the local Dept. of Children & Families (DCF) and the youth in foster care as they near adulthood.

At a Meet & Greet dinner on Nov. 5, UU members, a group of foster youth and DCF adult staff brainstormed ideas for events, especially for the upcoming holiday season. We have a bake sale fundraiser planned for the Panama City Christmas Parade and a holiday event planned at a local nursing home in December. To prepare for these activities, join us for our first activity this coming Tuesday!

We’ll meet at the Hidle House at 2121 Lisenby Ave and decorate Santa hats for the youth to wear during the holiday events, make festive signs for the fundraiser and finalize the plans for the nursing home visit.

Please bring any Santa hats you’d like to donate, along with any items like small tree ornaments, garlands, etc., that could be used for decorating the hats.

We are still feeling our way toward cementing our partnership with DCF, and your presence and enthusiasm can help it grow into a very good thing for the youth and for us.

Please RSVP for each of these events to Bob Gilmore (gilzach@yahoo.com) so we will know how many to plan for and to let you know of any changes to locations.
