The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship was honored to receive the 2017 Friendship Award, announced during the annual Sharing Ramadan Dinner, presented by the Islamic Society of Bay County. It was given to our Fellowship “for unwavering support and solidarity” with the Islamic community.
In the acceptance speech Jo Shaffer, member of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Bay County, noted the Fellowship’s ongoing commitment to our diverse community, affirming the worth and dignity of all people. She also thanked the Islamic Society for everything they are doing to strengthen our community by reaching out to others.
“We know our mutual regard and friendship will continue to be steadfast in the future,” she said.
The dinner, held on June 6, was attended by approximately 450 guests. In addition to the Award presentation, the program consisted of a presentation by Imam Amr Dabour, remarks by Dr. Hashem Mubarak, and a Quaranic Recitation. The theme for the dinner was “Respect for Humanity”. Our friends Hiba Rahim and Lamia Arafa were the event hosts and Fatima Mubarak was the event chairperson.
